Alchemy: the medieval process of transforming ordinary metals into gold. What does it mean to dream of it? In a series of new oil paintings by Allison Bogard Hall, the artist presents snapshot-like images combining landscapes and figures that take us deep into a world on the razor’s edge of reality. Each piece acts as a still from a larger narrative, moments captured and frozen in time. From a lone figure in the window to the sudden appearance of wings, the artist asks the viewer: What is real? What is transformed?
Allison Bogard Hall is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in Lakewood, Ohio. She graduated with her Bachelor’s degree in Painting from Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) in 2014, and is currently employed as the Studio Manager For Foundation and Continuing Education at the Cleveland Institute of Art (CIA). She has been actively making and showing work locally in Cleveland since 2014, in addition to showing her work in group shows from Akron and Oberlin, all the way to Maine. This is her second solo show in the greater Cleveland area, and her first solo exhibition presented by BAYarts following her Exhibition Award through the CAN Triennial.
