Big Backyard Art Camp is an outdoor focused creative adventure where campers explore art and nature in an engaging hands-on environment. Set in our sprawling BAYarts campus, the camp encourages young artists to connect with the outdoors while expressing themselves through a variety of artistic mediums while surrounded by the beauty and inspiration of nature. Activities may include plein-air painting, natural sculptures, eco-friendly crafts and more!

Please make sure that your child is suited for this active 4-day camp so that they will have the best experience possible.

For students with little to no experience in the ceramic studio. Perhaps you have never taken a ceramics class, or you have but you want a refresher course. In this class we will learn the basics of wheel thrown and hand built ceramics, from wedging to glazing. Let us help you start on your clay journey! The classroom is wheelchair accessible.

A class for students at all skill levels. Whether you’re looking to perfect an already growing skillset, try working with clay for the first time, or unsure where you stand, this is the class for you. Join us as we all find new ways to approach and improve techniques in both hand built and wheel thrown ceramics. The classroom is wheelchair accessible.

Beginning students will learn the basics in hand building and get a taste of throwing pieces such as mugs, bowls and platters plus glaze demos. Intermediate to advanced students will have the opportunity to refine their skills and work on independent projects, instructors will give suggestions on form and style development. Individual projects will be given as needed based on level and skill. Select classes will offer a refresher on various methods of decorating and glazing. All students will receive one on one attention and consultation. The classroom is wheelchair accessible.

In this workshop you will create a beautiful decorative flower bowl perfect for the garden or a coffee table centerpiece. In the first class you will learn hand building techniques, slab and pinching to create your special bowl. In the second class you will paint and glaze your creation.

Students will put together compound earrings in this relaxed, evening class. Bren will guide you through creating your choice of 1, 2, or 3 tiered Argentium silver/cop[per earrings–whatever is the right amount of sparkle for you! Participants will learn metalsmithing techniques such as shaping, texturing, stamping, sanding, cupping and attaching parts. All material provided.

Enjoy the lazy, hazy days of summer while exploring the art of creative writing. Writers will seek inspiration from woods and water as we explore a mixed palette of creative written expression. Poetry, prose, and personal narrative will take shape as we lean into the lively and carefree vibe of a BAYarts summer. Come join our talented and compassionate circle of writers for a summer filled with literary promise!

Let’s explore birds and their babies using ceramics and mixed media! We’ll be busy making a bird’s nest with eggs, sculpting and painting projects of birds caring for their hatchlings and creating a habitat using pinecones and natural materials.

We’re making art for the garden using ceramics and mixed media! We’ll be busy making a hand built flower pot, animal sculpture and a sun-face tile and heading outdoors to gather pinecones and natural materials to make a mini forest and campfire scene.

Explore the excitement of sound through story telling, movement, creativity and nature. Students will get to experience sounds from different instruments, along with connecting them to different characters or movements, helping them to develop expression, coordination and a love for music and nature. Students must be bathroom independent.

Little artists will get to explore different ways to travel and different ways to make art! There will be lots of exciting process based art experiences for little hands to try!

A fun musical theatre experience where artists will learn “Popular” songs and how to act them out! Creative movement, staging and how to be expressive when performing will be explored.

From a game you can play, an oversized art piece, and a moving sculpture, students will think outside of the box while recycling boxes into one of a kind art projects. Students will learn how to safely cut cardboard and the best ways to attach pieces together as they use these skills to assemble their creations.

Create a variety of purr-fect sewing projects centered around your favorite furry pet and learn a few hand sewing skills too!

Create a variety of faux stained glass windows and suncatchers using gallery glass paints, plexiglass and acrylic sheets.

Come and dive into a colorful and fun camp where you’ll explore different painting techniques, using pastels, collage, yarn weaving, bubble painting and more! It will be a whale of a good time and always a favorite camp session.

Join us to create art inspired by outer space that…GLOWS! The final creation will be shared at the end of the week in a glow gallery to showcase our cosmic creations!

Get ready to paint, sparkle up some wings and create some of the cleverest creepy-crawlies ever! Campers will turn their favorite backyard bugs into colorful works of art, exploring BIG colors, fun patterns, and texture. Great for kids that love nature!

We take classic storybook tales and flip them upside down! Maybe the princess rescues the dragon, or the villain turns out to be a hero. Through theatre games, character creation, and group songwriting, campers will work together to invent their own hilarious, unexpected version of a familiar fairy tale. The session ends with a mini performance where their reimagined story comes to life with costumes, movement, and music.

Young artists will dive into the playful side of painting. Instead of following strict rules, students will try out fun techniques like layering colors, wax resist, watercolor, acrylic, collage, making unique textures, and using unexpected tools. Spend the week discovering what happens when you let creativity lead the way and make beautiful works of art.

This camp will focus on making projects that are about your child created in both ceramics and mixed media. A self portrait sculpture, their favorite dessert painted on a platter, a hand painted clay tile and a cloud painting as we venture out of the classroom.

Students will be delighted as they create their very own tea set! It will include a handmade tea pot, with cups and saucers to match and the decorations are entirely up to you. Be inspired to create something truly unique.

Explore different habitats, different animals and different painting techniques as we create artwork of our favorite creatures!

Do you love to sketch and draw? Have stacks of paintings and art you’ve created? Create a sketchbook to keep all of your art in one place. Students will learn the basics of bookbinding and assemble handmade sketchbooks. Once complete we will explore art processes to fill the pages. This is a fabulous keepsake and a skill you will be able to do again on your own.

Get ready to roll, twist, bead and sparkle. Campers will transform colorful paper into amazing, wearable works of art. From rainbow bead necklaces to funky bracelets and more, you’ll learn how to cut, coil, glue and design your own one of a kind jewelry creations and design a jewelry box too!

Create artworks inspired by music from around the globe. “Travel” the world and experience local and exotic destinations…participate in a different cultural tradition each day. This multimedia class gives the student the opportunity to learn and experiment with basic art concepts and techniques in a hands-on environment.

Lights, curtain, action! In this imaginative camp our young artists will step into the exciting world of theatre. Students will decorate their own puppet stage, create a variety of puppets full of personality and charm, and perform a short story play, bringing everything to life!
