BAYarts invites Plein Air Artists throughout the region to join us on our campus located at 28795 Lake Road, Bay Village OH, 44140, and the surrounding Huntington Reservation of the Cleveland Metroparks for the Artistic By Nature Plein Air event which will celebrate the beauty that surrounds us.
BAYarts Plein Art Registration (in person the weekend of the event)
This event will be held September 15th, 16th, and 17th, 2023.
Awards will be presented at the artists’ reception Sunday, September 17 th between 2 and 4PM. We are pleased to welcome Judge Christopher Leeper, www.christopherleeper.com.
Eligibility: The competition is open to artists 18 years of age and older.

Format: Original two-dimensional art in any medium other than photography may be created during this event. No three-dimensional or computer-generated work will apply. Canvas/paper plus frame shall be less than or equal to 28” in any one direction. All pieces must be ready to hang.
Exhibition Venue: Works created during the competition can be for sale during our wet paint sell on the porch during the reception – if you- the artist– chooses. BAYarts will retain 40% of each sale.
Criteria: Each artist may submit a maximum of 2 pieces for jurying. Artwork must be completed on site in the true Plein Air style and may not be worked on off site or generated from reference photos. Styles may range from realism to abstract and must be in keeping with the impromptu style of plein air. ALL SALES DURING THE EVENT MUST BE MADE THROUGH BAYarts.
Application: A pdf of the application will be available at BAYarts.net on September 1st. Applications will be accepted in person only at BAYarts between 8AM and 12PM, Friday September 15th and 8AM and 12PM, Saturday September 16th, 2023. The $65 registration fee will cover administrative costs, juror fees, and prizes. You may submit up to 2 pieces for judging.
ALL CANVASES/PAPERS MUST BE STAMPED TO BE ACCEPTED FOR JUDGING.
Locations: Artists will paint on the BAYarts Campus extending along Lake Road in Bay Village – and the Huntington Reservation of the Metroparks. Huntington Beach, located across the street from the Huntington Reservation, is also included in the acceptable painting location. Christopher Leeper
Christopher Leeper is a realist painter and workshop instructor painting in all mediums. His award-winning work has been shown in solo and juried exhibitions throughout the country.
He has illustrated four children’s books and has written and illustrated the book Realism in Watermedia, (North Light). His work has also been featured in The Artist’s Magazine, Plein Air Magazine, Watercolor Magic and Ohio Magazine and in the book Splash 14 (North Light). In 2021, he was a finalist in the Plein Air Magazine Salon and was featured in the Aug./Sept. 2021 issue of the magazine.
He participates frequently in national juried and invitational plein air events such as Paint Grand Traverse, Wayne, Easton, Door County, Cape Ann and En Plein Air Texas. He is a consistent award winner
He graduated from Youngstown State University in 1988 with a BFA degree in graphic design. He was a member of the YSU adjunct faculty for 22 years. He is past president of the Ohio Watercolor Society and is a signature member of the National Oil and Acrylic Painters’ Society. He is on the Board of Trustees for the Ohio Plein Air Society and the Cliffside Artists Collaborative, Hinckley, OH. Since 2000, he has painted and taught full-time from his studio in Canfield, Ohio.
