Students will use a picture of their pet as reference as they trace and carve a likeness onto a slab of clay. The following week students will paint their slabs. Painting techniques are intentionally abstract and loose so they don’t feel intimidated by the thought of painting a portrait onto clay. Please bring a photo of your pet/animal to class printed on at least 5×7 copy paper, no larger than 8 x 11. Completed pieces will be hanging works of art.

Perhaps your home is for the fairies, gnomes or a little leprechaun. In this 3-week class students will hand-build tiny, whimsical homes out of clay. It will take 2-weeks to build our creations with slabs, templates, adding flowers, mushrooms, windows, doors and a chimney.
The final week we will paint our clay to be glaze fired!

In this class designed for homeschooled children we will explore both nature and art on a weekly basis. Taking to the parklands around campus we will have the opportunity to observe and explore the river, lake, forest and wildlife. Back in the classroom, students will explore both Action Elements and Art Elements allowing them to recreate or further explore what they observed in nature.
This structure will allow children to move around in nature, to experiment with how the natural world works, and process their findings in artful ways. Each session will end with an open house on the last day of class. Students will participate in our Annual Student Art Show in May 2027.

In this class designed for homeschooled children, we will explore both nature and art on a weekly basis. Taking to the [parklands around campus we will have the opportunity to observe and explore the river, lake, forest and wildlife.
