Alice McGinty: BAYarts 2025 Moondance Honoree

At this year’s Moondance benefit we are excited to honor Alice McGinty, a longtime BAYarts supporter and accomplished artist whose dedication has left a lasting impact on our creative community.

For more than 35 years, painting has been a guiding force in Alice McGinty’s life. What began as a watercolor workshop across from her real estate office at the Beck Center soon blossomed into a lifelong creative pursuit. She went on to study under accomplished artists such as Mary Lou Ferbert and Susan Gray Be, exploring watercolor, oil, pastel, charcoal, and, most recently, acrylics.

In 1985, Alice was diagnosed with macular degeneration, eventually losing the ability to read or drive. Though it seemed her artistic path might end, with the support of longtime mentor Susan Gray Be, she continued painting, adapting, evolving, and deepening her connection to the creative process. Through perseverance, collaboration, and a profound sense of purpose, she has turned her practice into a powerful example of resilience and healing through art.

Alice has long been a valued part of the BAYarts community, taking classes, sharing her work, and encouraging others in their own creative journeys. We are proud to recognize her and deeply grateful for her commitment to BAYarts and its mission.

Her journey is a testament to the belief that creativity can thrive, even in the face of physical challenges, and that sometimes, you just have to pick up the brush and begin.

We are grateful to Alice for her support of BAYarts throughout the years, and are delighted that she has accepted this honor. We hope you will join us for Moondance on September 13 as we celebrate Alice and all who make BAYarts the strong community we love.
