Edward A. Raffel’s interests lie chiefly in the inorganic man-made world, not in imitating nature. Analog Man in a Digital World is an exhibit in which all the work contains “material as stored information”. The pieces adhere strictly to minimalist values, with structural and esthetic concerns overriding decorative or ornamental ones. Patterns of 2 and 3 dimensions are used to both elucidate information and avoid the burden of composition, with both color and humor adding an engaging playfulness the viewer cannot ignore. Raffel’s show features a collection of new work; all but one piece have never-before been seen.
Raffel’s show will be on display in our Sullivan Family Gallery from April 12 through May 3.
Please join us on April 27th from 12PM-1:30PM with Edward A. Raffel for a gallery discussion of his show. This is a great opportunity to hear directly from the artist regarding the concept and construction of this very unique body of work.
