PORTFOLIO PREP with visiting professional artists
WEDNESDAYS 4:00-6:00 PM
When applying to an art college, the admissions department base their decisions largely on the art portfolio that is submitted.  If you are considering applying to an art school, this course will help you to get started or build upon current pieces while developing a comprehensive body of work.  This course is unique in that every 3-4 weeks, students will be exposed to guest instructors specializing in a specific media, giving students a diverse and challenging art education. Students will participate in class critiques as they work together, discuss each other's work and support one another's growth.
(SPACE IS LIMITED TO 10 STUDENTS)

John Carlson

Always artistically gifted, John began his career as an artist by attending Cleveland’s Cooper School of Art. Inspired by the works of Egon Schiele, Franz Kline, Edward Hopper and Lucien Freud, John strives to find a balance between expressive drawings and boldly executed paintings. John has been accepted into numerous juried shows including the prestigious Butler Midyear Show at The Butler Museum of American Art and recently juried into The Ohio Arts Council Riffe Gallery First Juried Show in Columbus OH. In July of 2015, he was the first non-photographer to show paintings in The Cleveland Print Room, gallery dedicated to the photographic arts. He was nominated for the Cleveland Arts Prize in 2009 and in 2004 his charcoal drawing "Viewpoint" was purchased by the Erie Art Museum and entered into their permanent collection. His work can be found in collections across the United States and in Europe.  johnwcarlsonstudio.com
