Intermediate to Advanced

Working in oils or acrylics, students will have the unique opportunity of painting in the beautiful Huntington Reservation. Paint on our porch, out in the yard and into the Metroparks. Continue to develop your sense of composition and style, while practicing oil and/or acrylic techniques. Continuing students welcome.

Susan Gray Bé

Susan Gray Bé has taught Oil & Acrylic Painting at BAYarts since 2010. She has a MA. in Painting from the State University of New York at Albany, a Certificate of Completion from the National Academy of Design, and has taken summer courses at the Rhode Island School of Design and the University of Vermont while in college. Susan received an BA. from Hamilton College in 1980, majoring in Art & a minoring in Psychology. Alongside teaching at BAYarts, she teaches drawing and painting to adults at the Cleveland Botanical Garden and the Cleveland Museum of Art (since 1997).
 

SUPPLY LIST

 Blick Professional Oil or Acrylic kit which includes a disposable palette, paint, three brushes, & a palette knife

*Please feel free to bring your existing paints.  

4 Filbert brushes: 2 #4 & 2#6

2 Sable or synthetic brushes: one round, #1, one filbert, #4,(sables work best for Oil/ synthetics work best for Acrylic).

1 quart of Gamsol, mineral spirits, to be used in two ways:  to clean brushes & as a medium while underpainting in oil.

1 quart of Stand Oil which is an artist's quality heavy linseed oil, to be mixed with Gamsol, 1/2 & 1/2 and used as an oil medium.

3 or 4 prestretched Canvases - your personal preferences: 12" x 12" squares and/or 16" x 20" rectangles.  You may also work on wood panel or larger if you wish.

1 pad of Smooth Bristol, 14: x 20",  to be used for preliminary drawings and painting on paper.

1 packet of extra soft vine charcoal

1 French Stump, pointed on both sides

2 Kneaded Erasers

Paper Towels/Rags

2 quart size glass jars with lids to collect and properly dispose of dirty solvent or to use for the water needed as a medium when painting in acrylic.

6 baby food or mustard jars to contain Gamsol & Oil based medium.

Several plastic grocery bags to collect garbage at the end of each class.

A portable easel.  * BAYarts, to my knowledge, has four metal easels.

Additional Suggestions for painting at Huntington Beach or on the grounds near the Fuller Studio:

Camera/ ziplock bags/ tape/ drop cloth/ Coleman camp stool/ Hat/ umbrella/ rolling cart/ cold bottled water.

REGISTRATION INFORMATION
FOR KIDS SUMMER CLASSES & CAMPS

APRIL 11-25

Anyone that registers for summer programs on or before April 25 will receive 10% off their class/camp fee.

Some restrictions may apply.

Registration Fee & Cancellation Policies

Registration: Students are not registered until tuition is paid and all forms are completed. When registering for classes on paper, rather than online, a completed registration form and health release form must be completed.

Refunds: If a student is unable to attend a course and they inform BAYarts Registrar 7 days prior to the start of the class, a full refund or class credit will be given. If the Registrar is notified less than 7 days and more than 2 days before the start of class, a class credit will be given minus a processing fee. (Processing Fee = 25% of the tuition paid for class) No refund if notified less than 2 days before the start of class or workshop.

Missed Classes: Fees are NOT refunded or pro-rated for missed classes.
