The Art of Indigo & Shibori (Spring)

indigo

with Janet Wade

Learn the beautiful art of indigo and shibori hand-dyeing using bundling, clamping, folding, and stitching techniques to create a one of a kind dyed fabric. Shibori is the Japanese dyeing technique that typically involves the binding of the cloth and then dip-dyeing the cloth bundle into a vat of indigo. Where the fabric is bound the cloth will resist the dye and remain white and where it is not bound, it will be dyed with the distinctive blue dye color of Indigo. Each student will choose a silk or a cotton scarf to dye and we will also use cotton squares to make samples of the different techniques that we learn in class.
