Eco-Dyed Scarves

With Janet Wade

Learn the contemporary application of the traditional techniques used to naturally dye fabrics. Leaves, stems, seeds, loose teas, roots and flower petals when bundled together with fabric and then steamed, will produce beautiful natural patterns and colors derived from their properties. In the first class we will eco-dye a silk scarf using rose petals and leaves that the teacher will provide. In the second class we will eco-dye a silk scarf using flowers, stems, seeds and any other flora collected from your home gardens. We will also go over other techniques such as jar dyeing and crushing flowers onto pretreated fabrics. *Please bring a pair of fabric scissors, a pencil and a few gallon size zip lock bags.
